Online Tutorials and Academic Curricula

Online tutorials are considered as a major source of information for anyone who wants to learn a new skill; and computer applications’ tutorials are no exception. They provide the students with the necessary step-by-step lessons that assist them in their studies. In the second discussion session of the Educational Technology Series (#etskw2), we would like to focus on the role of online tutorials and their relationship to academic curricula.

1.      Are online tutorials sufficient enough to replace the step-by-step in-class computer applications’ instructions? In other words, should curricula include these instructions or just rely on online tutorials only?
2.      What are the required standards for efficient online tutorials?

Suggested Instructions for the Participants:
  • Be prepared with some ideas according to the discussion’s topic
  • Present your ideas and/or viewpoints in a direct and concise way (about 125 characters)
  • In case you need to use more than one tweet to convey your message, please number your related tweets (e.g. 1/2, 2/2)
  • Make sure to use the following hash tag with all your tweets: #etskw2
  • Avoid using slang  or jargon to ensure proper automatic translation in Twitter
  • Due to the limited length of tweets in Twitter, it is recommended to use abbreviations for the basic terminology that will be used in the discussion (e.g. Technology = tech)
